Forgiven

By Shaina Cintron

If they clapped

While they bombed your homes,

Would you feed them?

If they bragged

About taking your innocents away,

Would you give them a fresh bed to sleep in?

If they trampled on your rights

And left crumbs of your dignity,

Would you polish their shoes

To continue to walk on you?

If they starved your soul

Made it their bitch,

Would you manifest nothing but joy for them?

Would you beg for forgiveness just for existing?

Would you mourn the puppet master

While you lay on a bed of nails?

Would you forgive someone

With no remorse in their soul,

Just to have a false shadow of a day?

Would you believe in their god

Even if it means erasing the one in you?
