For A Thousand Infinities

By Aarohi Shah

Emptiness,

That’s what I feel,

In your absence.

Moist eyes,

And half bitten nails.

Without you,

That’s the routine.

No notifications,

No ring.

My phone has gone silent,

But,

So have I.

Memories,

That’s all we are left with.

Your face,

Flashing before my eyes,

Before they blur,

And turn into tears.

My heart flinches,

My body springs,

At anything,

That looks like you,

Or sounds like you.

My problems,

My insecurities,

No one to make them vanish.

No one on my army,

Just the ghost of you.

You weren’t just my friend,

More like my brother.

And exactly,

Like my soulmate.

Didn’t you think of me,

Who would I go to? Before taking a shot,

For the soil you are buried in.

You came back,

Like you said you would.

But,

Wrapped in our flag.

Next time,

You better greet me with a hug.

Next time,

You better not die before me.

The reason?

Dying with you,

Would be much better,

Than living without you.

You better reincarnate,

As my best friend.

For years and years to come,

For infinity.

And for a thousand more infinities,

We will meet,

And nothing will change,

At all.
