For a Crumble Of Affection
By D.S.S. Lalitha Ujwala
am I really that unlovable?
things I do for a crumble of affection,
breaking pieces of myself, going against everything I ever believed in,
What haven't I done for just for a crumble?
everything just for a crumble, everything just to be pushed away
just to be called all sorts of names,
weird, unlovable, useless, worthless,
everything, anything you can imagine that can come out of a filthy human's mouth,
what have you done that I didn't do?
you get showered with praises, affection,
and all I get is the hate, the anger, the unspent resentment,
what did you do to deserve that?
what haven't I done?
I give and give, expecting that,
someone, someday will return it to me,
someone, someday will love me the way I do
someone, someday will fill the void of my heart,
the void of just giving and giving, till there's nothing left, and never getting it back
the void of never being accepted, always the odd one out
the void of always being a choice, never the chosen one
the void of changing myself constantly just to fit in, performing every second of this cruel life
will it ever be filled?
will I ever be the chosen one?
tomorrow is just another day.........

A raw, heartbreaking poem exploring emotional neglect, self-erasure, and longing for love with haunting honesty.
