First
By Shubhangi Anuragi
our communication is dying
and baby, I'm so done trying
you give me reasons
but my skeptical brain thinks
"he's lying."
it's been months and you
haven't seen my weak moments
haven't seen me
crying
my mind in solitude
runs faster than yours
ever could
and I'm not talking wit
(well maybe)
I'm talking thoughts of you
I think of you
what you do
what you don't
what you say
what you don't
and it is outright disappointing because
in my mind,
I haven't had to go that far
the differences are-
on the surface
no digging, no tools
no looking even, you fool
so come, soothe me
soothe my mind
slow it down
draw the blinds
because I like you
but I’m not like you
and I don't understand
your simple love
and uncomplicated brain
cut out the distance
and smile at me your
goofy smile
make me forget
the ghosts with your kisses
and tell me all the
irrelevant business
even though I look pathetic
to me,
something, surely, my future self
disses
she also knows
it pays me
not in money but phrases
so make me a fool
and twirl me around
in the clown's clothes
I’ll watch it all unfold
keenly
and with least resistance
for the two of us
myself and
my poetry
