Feather On a House Of Cards
By Neesha Rumi
I lie ensconced
In the Sky - watching
The Stars move
Across your chest -
As Dawn responds
To the beckoning of Night -
Under the Stars spread
Across our Bodies -
Our only Universes -
Breaking against
The Shores of Habit -
Eating us - Grain by Grain -
The Tides obey
The crests and troughs
Of our every Breath -
A primordial bird Cry
Skewers the crystal sleep
Of Night - impaling it with
A weapon of Hunt -
Soars into the starry folds
Of our blanket -
Curls up softly
Between us and exhales -
A Song is to be woven
Out of the Voice's husk
A Wind carries the Message
Of a long lost Thought -
Wanders aimless in a open-guttered City -
We are Unchanged - grown magnificently
Desperate in a secret search
For Love - Living - Having -
Devouring with our voracious -
Open - salivating Mouths -
Covered with a Mask
Painted with the Mythology
Of Civilization
In Sleep is our amniotic
Innocence - covered gently
By the Sky - with the Stars retracing
Their eternal Footsteps
We can wake and have our biscuits
We can grasp Reality again -
With our grappling Claws -
Feel the Subterranean rumble
Of our Hunger - stirring awake within us -
Quench our Thirst with Water -
Wrung clean by the summer Sun
I know you are waiting for me -
With your Dragon's Spirit -
To awake and bear Witness
To the what they call a Miracle -
Life feels so normal -
With the churning of Traffic -
Gnawing Deadlines -
Momentarily smiling Salaries -
The Historic - Cyclical Shoulds -
Yes we Should – we Must –
And we Be –
I've Been – I Am – I will Be –
'Neath the Stars as we know Them
With our spoonfuls of Laughter –
Our bucketfuls of Craving – Yearning –
For the slight Touch
Of your sea-sick Fingers
In my seaweed Hair –
Time will expand as we Breath in –
The Cry will awake and fly –
Cleaving an old Wound open –
The Scream through Silence
They don't see – we Fight because
We Hunger – we want to Eat
That Reign – grind its bones
To Dust – gnashing our Teeth –
For Hunger – And for Love
You see – all I want
Is to Touch you –
Like a feather on
A House of Cards –
A Kiss of thousand Lips –
And Children can contain
Our amniotic Sleep –
Balanced on the tip
Of a Dragon's Breath –
