Faraway Love

By Shravya Vadali

There are a million ways I can see you

But not the one way I want to

I listen to you everyday

But in this forever rain

I can never listen to you the way I want to

Unfortunately I can't see you smile

I can't hear your speak, laugh and sing in the shower

I can't see your face scrunched up in frustration

I can't see the scribbling in your notebook

When my feelings get too much

I cannot touch you to ensure you're there

That you will be there

So I tell my heart to calm down

I look at you in the ways I can and am permitted to

Imagine and enjoy the lyrics you wrote

I imagine what you must have felt when you wrote them

Is it joy or the silence of wisdom that guides your hand?

Did you feel what I feel in your voice?

I want to know you beyond what I can see right now

But I have to tell my heart to calm down

We're separated in so many ways

And despite my interest, your mere voice in my ears is enough

It's enough even if it's going to be only just that.
