Fairytale

By Harshita Mishra

I wanted to let the truth out

but I knew how much it would

feel left out

in a world where believing is a myth and lie is a proud king

so I lied,

when I laughed

when I cried

when I talked

wherever I stopped

to the people and to me

even to the world inside me

to fool none but the eyes of mine

for a last time my heart screeched

while the truth remained inside it

The king won again

We became the slave,

just to be stitching every ugly word

to make a fairytale.
