Extraordinary

Welcome to the race for Glory,

Fighting tooth and nail to gory.

Hardened hearts and seasoned minds,

Live to tell the story behind,

Of why this world keeps the ordinary confined,

From the reachable heights of undefined.

Born into this cut-throat world,

Where normalcy is questioned for merit,

And success is measured in capital earned,

Why then, do you wonder, what extraordinary is worth?

The standards remain a secret,

One everyone’s running to discover,

Who says you’re extraordinary,

When every other second,

A better you is uncovered.

Why then, do you wonder, what extraordinary is worth?

Competitions are held,

Winners declared,

Others announced failures.

When you judge their competence,

Based on trivial loss,

When their labour holds little value

in this affair,

When they’re ridiculed for societal ideals.

Why then, do you wonder, what extraordinary is worth?

In a world of mediocrity, ordinary and extraordinary,

Who sets the standards?

Who knows their stories?

Who knows their struggles?

Who hands them their glory?

What is really extraordinary?
