everyone sees the summit

and the earth underneath

from which the mountains emerge

but why is it never

that anyone notices the slope,

no one sees amidst

top or below

the cliffs, the falls, the passes

the caves and morasses

how the hungry animal forages

for scraps, for acknowledgement

be grateful for what you have

you could have had nothing

but nothing is better than something

everything that is nothing is yours

see the worst and see the best

and disregard the remnants

that ruin the scene

for the apex and the bottom is what everyone sees

but what about us who are stuck

us who dare to wish

to be the best of the worst or the worst of the best

but stand out from the rest
