Die teenwoordigheid van jou afwesigheid

hang soos 'n kruis voor my gesig.

Dit is vreemd om jou foto's te sien

op die voorblad van elke landswye nuusberig.

Die avontuur het begin en geëindig met jou bors;

teen jou hart 'n wit vlinder.

Dit het tot stilstand gekom tussen sjerpas

en 'n gebruikte suurstofsilinder.

Het die sneeukombers op die berg

soos die voorportaal van die Hemel gelyk?

Kon jy die belofte van 'n ewige oorwinning

effens in die berghange ruik?

Ek kan my indink dat die Groenhuis stil is;

daar is geen Billy Joel tussen haar mure nie.

Palmiet het het een ry minder voetspore op die strand

en ook nie meer soveel braaivure nie.

Hoe sal ek ooit weer na Laurika Rauch kan luister

sonder om jou lag soos 'n echo te hoor?

Gaan ek dit regkry om met elke Ingrid Jonker-gedig

die verlange weg te smoor?

Ek sien jou nog steeds in elke brander

en in elke kersvlam wat teen my mure dans.

Ek kan jou selfs langs my voel sit

as ek die trein uit Amsterdam terugneem saans.

Rus is soet, Pietie.

Ek hoop jy het dit in vrede gevind.

Mag die kussing van jou ontslaping jou vir ewig herinner

aan die liefde wat ons familie saambind.
