Even After Years

There you were;

In that pretty red dress

As beautiful as the day I met you.

Even after years

I recognised you at once,

How? I don’t even know

I suppose I never forgot

That small curving of your lips

That light rise of eyelids

That faint blur of dark black eyes

You looked happy, clam,

Maybe even at peace.

And now I’m relieving

All those places we went;

All those things we had;

All those people we knew;

And so little time we had

And I can’t help but wonder

Would you have remembered me...

Had you looked up?

To see me,

Watching you,

Would you have recognised me?

Would you have heard?

Would you have waved?

Would you have talked?

Or even just smiled at me?

... probably not
