Empty Streets
By Ishaan Dikshit
There comes a time,
For a moment at night,
Where there lies no sound,
And the streets are empty.
All you can hear,
Is your ragged breathing
As you question your purpose,
All while, the streets are empty.
Your hard day's work,
Your chorus galore,
You search for answers,
But the streets are empty.
You lean, you bend, you contemplate
If anything you do is worth it,
These times where you are truly alone,
And all the streets are empty.
Life goes by, in front of your eyes,
A whisper away, so close, yet so far.
Burdened by your own self, looking for help.
But oh, the streets are empty.
You stare down this path,
You were destined to take,
And wonder silently who else is awake,
Everything is still,
Your mind, your body, your will,
Alas, the streets are empty.
So you turn around, giving up hope,
And see your life played out before you,
And in those memories,
All but the streets are empty.
You gain your pride,
Your smile, your size,
And turn back to what lays ahead,
For now, the streets are empty.
So forge ahead,
One step at a time,
No matter the path you choose.
It won't be long,
When this wasn't wrong.
And these streets aren't empty.
