Introducing Bhavya Jayabharathwaj's poignant poetic piece, "Embers in Ink," part of the esteemed Global Poetry and Creative Writing Competition 2026. A work of profound solitude and introspection, this poetry submission delves into the depths of personal emotion and the cathartic power of writing. Bhavya, through "Embers in Ink," invites us to reflect on the intimate process of transforming inner turmoil into art, all while participating in a global celebration of literary creativity.

About the Work

"Embers in Ink" is a profound exploration of solitude and self-expression. The poem vividly captures the emotional landscape of isolation and the transformative power of writing. Through striking imagery and a raw, introspective mood, Bhavya Jayabharathwaj eloquently conveys the struggle of internalized anger and the solace found in penning down emotions. The poem's structure and use of metaphor create a deeply moving portrayal of finding one's voice amidst silence.

Embers in Ink

Original Submission by Bhavya Jayabharathwaj

I'm alone.

Soft hiccups break the silence,

as the wet trails on my cheeks

harden into salt.

Blind in the dark room,

I stumble —

as if trapped

in an underground bunker,

safe from war —

and the world

from me.

I've grown tired

of brittle screams

ricocheting

off empty walls,

their cracks reflecting

my own.

Heard by none but me.

The hate I swallow —

sharpened by experience,

like manja coated

with shards of glass.

I cannot reveal it.

I cannot hide it.

So I write.

I restrain the unrest,

channel the anger —

just long enough

for them to become

words

on paper.

Like wet tar poured onto a road

to level it —

I etch my feelings

onto that blank sheet —

until it's smudged with ink,

scribbles and cuts

marking the messy work

of a writer.

And as words spill out,

smoothing the ragged edges

of those wild emotions,

my hoarse voice

loses its hateful timbre.

My rawness

refined into observation.

I had no one

to listen to my cries,

nor anyone

to soothe my screams.

Now

I do neither.

For the paper bears witness —

and so does the world.
