Elementary Love

By Yash Gupta

Do u remember that feeling before asking a girl out?

Words refusing to come out of your mouth, your sense of humour abducted by those embarrassing and lame jokes, heart enacting the situation of performing the longest cardio it could find and your mind giving up the will to think straight!

Yep, it pretty much sums up what i was feeling that day.

I don't understand what exactly what it was that compelled her to agree. But i simply don't care!

"At what time do i pick you up?", I asked.

"You don't need to do that" she begins..

"Atleast give me an opportunity to be a gentleman for once" , i joked.

" You will be given plenty of those, but i can drive myself", the independent woman in her exclaimed!

I really don't know exactly how i came up with this. But with nervous hands i texted..

"I will give u the opportunity to prove chivalry isn't dead. Come pick me up."

It was the longest 3 seconds of my life as i awaited her reply.

"Okay!", she giggled; trying to resist the smile which was intruding her poker face!

Yeah she looked pretty. But it wasn't that which caught my attention.

As soon as she picked me up, she cracked the same old lame joke which i would have cracked if i would have been in her shoes.

"Your cab has arrived sir", she smiles!

"Keep driving and never ever stop!", the romantic in me whispered.

It wasn't one of those cheesy date scenarios.

But it was magic.

Instead of breaking the bubble with those old 'what are your hobbies' kind of questions, we began trading the most riotous of the memes we had found on the internet.

Without even realising our so called 'bubble' fused!

I wished that evening would never end. I wasn't sure if she reciprocated the same. Yet we kept having that kind of effortless talks amidst the moments of uncomfortable silence.

Yep! Those creepy silent phases did come!

But what amazed me was her persistence to tide over it.

It was one of those winter months.

Cold breeze danced around her hair and those occasional split second moments of spine chilling cold seemed to hit us!

It is funny how i fought the chattering of my teeth due to cold and mumbled to her," it's one of those cliche moments in which i offer you my jacket you know.. But like the dumb kid that i am, i forgot to bring one"

She laughs a little..

It was like the warmth you feel when you get up early in the morning and wrap yourself in the blanket for a few more seconds.

She just laughs.

It was magic!

"How about creating the cliche moment of enjoying a warm cup of tea amidst the storm?" she asks me.

It's funny how quickly you can fall in love with someone.

It really is.
