Echoes Over Jozi

The traffic stalls beneath a golden light, As taxis hustle down the tarmac river.

High-rises cast a cool, towering shadow, Where commuters trace the rush of urban time. The scent of roasted maize sparks up a memory, Of quiet townships far from the central home.

Through crowded street-side stalls I wander home, While neon signs ignite the Jozi light.

The pavement hums with history and memory, Flowing through the CBD like a second river. Miners and dreamers traded all their time, To build this city from the bedrock shadow.

Beneath the Ponte Tower's winding shadow, Thousands press forward, searching for a home. We sell our sweat and buy a little time, Chasing rich horizons in the fading light. The skyline stretches out just like a river, Washing away yesterday's heavy memory.

Yet even in the noise, a grounded memory Stays resilient beneath the skyscraper shadow. The vibrant spirit pours through like a river, Reminding every heart of what is home. The purple jacarandas catch the light,

And bloom despite the heavy weight of time.

We hustle through the clock, defying time, Holding to our roots and sacred memory. When golden sunsets bathe the streets in light, And evening steals away the midday shadow, The city pulse still leads us safely home, Guided by the current of the river.

And so Jozi stands beside its river,

A bustling metropolis reborn in time.

Where all our journeys converge and call it home,

Deeply woven into South African memory. Though dusk may cover Hillbrow in a shadow, The morning breaks again in golden light.

The city river surges past old time,

No concrete shadow dims a vivid memory, For where the Jozi light shines, we find home.
