Echoes In Empty Rooms

By Tvishaa Vijay

They warn us not to make homes out of people.

They say it will hurt too much while they’re gone.

But what are these beating hearts good for,

If not to be a place for others to belong?

My heart is a home with many rooms

With empty spaces for people to stay,

And sometimes we are lucky and find ones

Who remain with us even when they are away.

Because we all have certain people

Who, for some reason, feel like home.

It's true that without them you might feel lonely

But at least you are not doing life alone.

If there ever comes a day

When the moon hides from your eyes;

Luminous memories of us together,

Will soar, like a flock of fireflies.

If seawater drowns your pupils

When sadness intrudes your heart,

My hands be the handkerchief

That so gently dry your eyes.

When your midnight thoughts fall asunder

Staring at wishes from afar,

Know I'm never out of reach-

I will always be by your side.

your metaphor of the heart as a home feels sincere and generous, and the closing reassurance is especially tender and uplifting.
