Early Morning Dew

Woodsy planes and misty window panes,

I liked to sit with the melancholy and the early morning dew.

Rainy streets and tear-stained, Egyptian sheets,

I loved lifetimes in seconds, and only but a few.

Knives out; run, run before this too is done.

Three daggers, and love’s very essence on the line.

Burning man; I lied, I lied to Him, you, and I.

Five Hail Mary’s, man’s fall, and the sign.

I’ll pencil you into my letters, and whistle you over my songs,

That’s just the way life goes, I suppose.

Because I would find you. I have always been searching,

But I cannot dwell where your gust[o] blows.

I offer you the words on my tongue,

I am utterly forsaken. Watch it, and you’ll know it’s true.

“My heart beats with reckless abandon”,

And still I sit here, wrecked, and on my lonesome with the early morning dew.
