Drowned

Once more, I drown myself in an ocean

With waves of words and colors of ink.

It’s the same place I go to every time

Almost like clockwork, a mindless machine,

Hearing the same wretched ticks I am used to by now.

My callused hands scoop the water desperately

And pour it on my scarred face, pained by the sensation

And I stay in the water once more,

Waiting for it to give me a miracle, the holy gift of relief.

But this time the great old magic is dead

I am too damaged, now just pieces of a mirror

To be healed like I always have,

To have the eternal wounds reduced into nothingness

And the dolphins gently nudge my body, still trying

Begging me to keep trying, to not give up

But I push them aside, one final goodbye

And thank them for staying beside me

Through the waters of hell and heaven.

My old friends chase after me

Attempting hopelessly to pull me up

But I am too deep for them to reach.

I have drowned already.
