Down On My Knees

By Gracelyn N. Rose

The trees freeze

In the breeze

I am down on my knees

Lungs can barely breathe

The quiet thoughts

Turn into knots

Their screams

Tear me at the seams

The screams

The knots

The quiet thoughts

Are not as they seem

The quiet thoughts

Are just thoughts

Thoughts are loud

But never proud

Lungs can barely breathe

I am down on my knees

In the breeze

The trees freeze

And I am down on my knees

My thoughts riot

My surroundings grow quiet

The trees freeze

In the breeze

I struggle to breathe

I feel at ease

This peculiar calm

Is in my palm

But I am down on my knees

In the dark

Looking for the light

That I may never find

I am kind

And full of life

Looking for the light

In the dark

That I may never find

Still I am down on my knees.
