Dilemma Of A 90s Kid

By Manu Singh

Being born in the 90s, I understand that this is the most difficult decade for my peers.

Basically, we are living in a world of co-existing generations. Although, it is not the first time, but it is definitely different this time because of the vast variation that came along. The tremendous gap makes us unable to relate to either one of them and we often find ourselves thinking “Where do we belong?”.

On one hand, our parents are trying to keep their culture alive through us. Their rules and rituals (which often seems like superstitions to us), the way they try to teach us the things they were taught by their folks, without any cross questioning, with the only objective of helping us be a better person, makes us want to obey them. After all they’re the parents and we all have a soft corner for them.

On the other hand, the teenagers now are growing faster than the technology itself. From a very young age they understand the new gadgets and apps more than an average adult. The level of intelligence and talent is crossing limits every day around us. Whether it be academics or arts or any other field, these children astound us. I doubt that people are putting something different in their genes these days which our parents didn’t know about.

Where we see our parents’ life as slow, simple and social; the life of our next generation is super fast, super technical and social-only in media. This vast difference has left us in a dilemma of whether to try and be a part of them or just sit back and be content with being unique in our own way.

Well, all I can say is that we should shake off the dilemma and cherish being a part of both these variations. We understand the importance of being social and also of social media. We might be a little lost but we love and adjust with both these generations, inspite of their differences. We are the combination, more powerful than each one individually.

Elders teach us habits

From youngers we get inspired,

We don’t stand out like they do

But we do keep this connection wired.
