Denial

The Nile is a river in Egypt

The dead valleys did it flourish

Denial is a river in my conscious

In which I did drown and perish

Neglected all the problems

Denied every single obvious sign

Just for me to cherish a person who

Clearly had intentions that weren’t benign

Denied my own feelings

Just to understand their behavior

While I unknowingly helped the villain of my story

Thinking they were my savior

Denied my own doubts

Put them off as overthinking

Thought I could make our boat float

Acting like it wasn’t already sinking

Sinking, indeed it was

For a person I thought I could cherish

Denial is a river in my conscious
