Demeanor Of The Heart

By Tashreet Kaur

nostalgia knocks at the door

an undue visitor settling inside

limerence idle in essence

observing melancholy’s affair

it echoes in the laughter of the children playing,

the gentle hymns confiding in the silent night,

whispering in the aching familiar melodies,

or the cliche lines written in every step forth

merely stopping by for instances

becoming the heart’s fragile formality

a stinging awakening of reality

struggling to fathom its rapture
