Definition Of Insanity

I shine bright like the fluorescent lights all around me

Blinding me

Giving me a headache

Only to be knocked out by a speeding car

A reckless driver 

Unaware of the consequences of their actions

What once was, is no longer

At one moment, as bright as can be

The next, dark as an alley

Where you hide from each mistake 

Each word

Only to be attacked once more

By an intruder called my thoughts

Sometimes I'm too strong

A lemon skittle in the mix of M&M’s 

I blend in with the crowd, but once uncovered, I stick out like a sore thumb

Smothered by the opinions of others

Their painful stings of reality

Why couldn’t I realize sooner?

I could've retreated and protected myself 

But instead of retreating to somewhere safe, I b-lined straight back to the dark alley 

Mistakes are allowed until the same are repeated

The same actions come with the same outcomes

I never learn

A child continuing to stick metal into an outlet, only to be shocked every time

But never learn

I never learn

I am strong

I am myself

I am one with the crowd

I get knocked down

I can’t get myself off the ground 

I never learn

I get myself back up

I mess up 

I fall back down 

I never learn
