Defiance

The lush gardens of my insides,

every nerve alight, opal bright,

hung up in a brown-gowned shroud,

green-capped, a kite caught in flights,

yearning for winds that never rise.

adoring the new vibrant palette of life,

heavy with the brutality of my own sweet weight,

visually vivid to the sore, sore eye,

consumed by the inner fire of hate,

yet longing for colors I cannot create.

am I ready to give more than I will ever receive,

or is it just a distortion trying to pluck,

wearing a cloak of deceit?

let it fall or let it fail,

will invasion birth my infamy,

Laden with abundance for all,

Yet never enough

for those beyond the wall.

For every fall, there was rebirth,

for every ash, a phoenix rising from the earth.
