DEAR DOOR

Door,

show me what the world looks like,

show me the faces that pass by,

what clothes do they wear?

Do they look like the

young man in the photograph

that hangs above my head?

Do they, too, reflect the world

from eyes filled with dread?

Dear door,

Your slight openness reflects

your sincerity and truth

in wicked ways-

I can only see the garland seller

with a few passers- by but

not many pass by under

that garland seller’s sky.

Only if you could open some more,

to your true candor,

more world these old weak eyes could bore

and endless light enter this shabby dark room,

through you my door.

I could walk out too,

but I choose to sit under

this picture of my new days.

From this chair the

world looks too bright for me anyways.

And, anyways,

I’ll watch the garland seller

sell his labour one-by-one,

I’ll count the flowers he’s taking back tonight

and how much joy he has won.

The night will set in

and after a long day of

watching other’s world,

I will slowly cave back in mine,

light up my world by a table lamp,

and at last, me and my world will quietly intertwine.
