Dead and Dying
By Elyssa Mitts
If the dead are alive
Then the dead can die
I remember when he died
But he clearly isn’t dead
In the heat of summer
The running man is subjected to a shiver
In the cold of winter
The sitting man is subjected to a sweat
His ribcage is on full display
Organs spilling but some stay tucked inside
He should have deceased by all means
But he continues to yell at his perpetrator
All were meant to die
He did die when he committed suicide
Very few survive such deaths after all
But he is alive
The body is cold
The voice is hot
The temperature is high
The sound is low
Shaking violently
He ran to nowhere
Doused in perspiration
He sat on nothing
The dead have ceased external existence
But their voices scream in agony
The audio is distorted by livelihoods
And none can hear their wails

This poem is the perfect mix of eerie and uneasy. It made me feel goosebumps when I was reading it, and it is just a fantastically written poem overall. Keep up the amazing work!
Your poetry is the best! You are truly creative!
I like how he yells at himself , the perpetrator but yet cannot yell to be noticed by others in the end if he poem.i also like the contrast stanza that illustrates how distorted one feels in such a moment, how it’s like the body is fighting itself almost. Their senses distorted
High-key haunting. Just imagining the things happening in this poem gives the shivers
Amazing poem!!
