Your lonesome nights

Where the critters’ songs

Filled the void

Under the pale gaze

Of the distant moon

Waiting for the day

Who arrives without fail

Burning your body

With its ruthless rays

When you rush to the shore

Only to come back empty

Does it tear you anew

With each attempt?

The waves that leap

To an unheard melody

The graceful steps

Of a dancer’s sorrow

The hollow cries

Of sunken ships

Crushed and churned

With your immense might

Were you perhaps

Distrustful

Of its unearthly form

Which drifts on the blue

With its loathsome heft?

Isn’t it heavy?

The weight of life

That dwells in your breast

Feeding on your vitals

Do you weep in silence

Longing for an entity

To honour and soothe

The depth you carry?

Do tell me,

Do you wish to embrace

The ever distant sky

The supple firmament

Who knows no bounds?

Is that why you create

An illusion so great

That dreamers gaze at

And poets venerate
