Crucifying Myself

I crucify myself with every act of grace

In the name of love, I embrace

The agony of their misdeeds

While my own heart silently bleeds.

For I allow them to step all over me

Despite all my pain, I fail to see

And as I try to persevere

I break down at the frontier

That differentiates my pain from my grace

My heart, it carries the weight of their words

Their sins, a cross upon my back

and with every chance I question my own respect

because this love, it feels no less than a theft

but ease their pain, to mend their soul

I lose control.

But still, I stand unable

To believe humanity is still allocable

for as I hang myself against this cross of forgiveness

my heart becomes consumed by my own sickness
