Corridors

Sometimes, I feel out of place

Like the school corridors are not meant for me

The noise, too loud for me

The laughter, too superficial for me

Sometimes, the noise fades out

It’s only my footsteps I hear now

My toes curling inside of my pitch black shoes

My hands holding down the sleeves of my white collared polo shirt The voice inside my head constantly reminding me why I am doing this Visualising myself achieving my goals

The rush when I know that I did it

You know that feeling don’t you?

When your heart starts beating faster and faster

When you feel butterflies in your stomach

When you get restless but want to stay that way

The beautiful adrenaline rush of success

Your idea of success

That only you know

When I am back at home

The silence screams at me

It is when I lose it all and the mask is taken off

It is when I can finally be who I am

A place where no one can tell me who to be and what to do It’s my safe house

A place where my insecurities don’t matter

Where I can continue to work on myself until I am the success I dream of

But, at the end of the day I have to wake up again

Wear the same clothes, the same shoes and walk the same corridors Until I’ve achieved my dreams

Until the time for goodbyes
