Competition Draws Out The Best In A Child

By Maanya Kaur Sethi

Competition is striving to win something by defeating or gaining hegemony over others

Competition gives me energy. My competitive enthusiasm to win keeps me focused.

Competition allows children to learn patterns of social cooperation. The best example

for this our own school St Joseph’s Academy. Every year for various events students

participate in State & All India level competitions in groups or as individuals. They not

only learn the art of social cooperation but also excel in controlling emotions in

emotionally intense situations. Live examples are our Debating Society teams, G.K Quiz

teams, Basketball, tennis & dance teams.

Time & again to win the game or to gain Supremacy one requires to think out of the box.

This out of the box thinking improves our creativity & problem solving skills.

A horse never runs so fast as he does when he has other horses to catch up & outpace.

For example my friend recently won an All India chess championship in the under 16

category, little did she know her potential until her competitors made her realize it.

To sum up Competition is not just about structured games & events. It transpires an

individual or team to pitch their skills against one another.
