"clean as you go" is the first thing one sees,

when entering this dreamlike state of a kitchen.

it's in colourful letters you used for the kids to see,

Pasted on the mirror fridge you secretly overuse.

Stealing a glance at yourself when you think no one's watching

I laugh as I gaze at my thoughtful reflection,

memories clouding my decision-making on what to eat.

I recall how the sunniest day of the year,

made the all-white kitchen look like a disco ball.

From your "nothing shines brighter than me" floral satin apron

-You eagerly purchased at a thrift store.

And your tiles are like a red carpet.

I make a go at the mismatched rainbow cutlery, a wooden breadboard

-Preparing for a sandwich.

Your confetti-like appliances illuminate your resplendent nature

-that peppermint green toaster yelling at the fresh sunflowers I bought this morning,

-resting in the teal and lavender vase, another thrift store purchase

Or how your silver and bronze pots sweat under the presence of your relaxed ruby red air fryer

Like you, the kitchen would be bland without them.
