Colours Of My Voice
By Sabyasachi Nautiyal
Today, my grey voice left me,
But it wasn't grey from the start,
Forever ago, it was a beautiful pink,
One that emanated from the heart,
Like mum, my heart was painted yellow,
Like dad, my mind was blue,
My home, my family, my life all orange,
Shaded with the magical golden hue,
But one morning, something happened,
My voice became a mossy green,
My heart turned red, I lost my pink,
And all meaningful golden sheen,
And so the days pass me by,
I feel the red inside me grow,
My parents offer me some of their white,
I sneer and tell them no,
And slowly, releasing my heart and mind,
Even the red fades away,
Leaving behind, in its place,
A voiceless, cold grey,
And so I lay still, losing all colour,
Hoping someone would raise a yellow voice,
But all that pervades every inch of my life,
Is nothing but a static gray noise,
And then, I lose even the grey,
And all that's left is black,
The canvas falls flat and the paint runs dry,
And my grip on the brush goes slack,
And I hear the distant red howls,
From my once amber voiced home,
And now there's no sound, just blank noises,
Like an unsung, heartbroken poem,
I wonder if I had a future,
What colour would it have been?
But I was the one who robbed myself of it,
Now black is the colour to be seen.
