The Capital of the Nation

A city of three quarters of a million

It is the place where

Me and my family live

Easily comparable to New York and London

For having walkable streets

A compact city layout and a robust public transportation network

It has been in existence since 1865

Walking and cycling makes it easier to travel

Due to high population density

Gridlock traffic is constant everywhere in the city

This makes driving cars a frustrating experience

So buses, tuk-tuks, and taxis are used instead

15 divisions, 47 wards and 5 electorates

Make up the Colombo Municipal Council

There are plenty to see and explore

Including iconic landmarks and places of interest

Such as Race Course, Lotus Tower, Independence Square

Vihara Maha Devi Park, Old Colonial Buildings

Made from Portuguese, Dutch and British Architecture

Blending old buildings with modernity and futuristic technology

The nightlife is vibrant, with music flowing in all directions

The local cuisine is enjoyable, the food truly represents genuine Sri Lankan authenticity

Street foods and local favourites

Make many a visitor enjoy the gastronomic experience

Colombo is considered a melting pot

With different cultures and ethnicities living together under one roof

The people of Colombo are a mix of races

Including Indian Tamils, Sri Lankan Tamils, Sinhalese

Sri Lankan Muslims, Indian Muslims, Malays, Burghers

Colombo Chetties, Sri Lankan Chinese, Bharat People and Farsis

It is also home to a large expatriate community

Consisting of foreign workers, students, investors and professionals

With the largest groups coming from India, China, Russia, Italy, Maldives

The Arab states, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, UK, USA, Japan and South Korea

This makes Colombo a cosmopolitan metropolis

And a city with very high diversity

It is a great pleasure to live in this city
