Rudra was ready for school. It was his first day in 11th standard. He walked to my house to call me, as we always went to school together. Whenever he didn’t come to pick me up, I simply didn’t go.

When we reached school, Raj was already waiting. Rajveer Shah, son of Janardan Shah, a business tycoon of Dehradun belonged to a prestigious family. He was well-disciplined, extremely punctual, and never late. Raj loved reading mythology and had done a lot of research on it.

As we entered the school, he shouted,

“Why are you guys 3 minutes late?”

Rudra and I looked at each other and burst into laughter. We often told Raj he should loosen up and be more like us. Since 9th standard, we've changed him a lot.

We studied at R.K. Institutions of Science & Technology. Yes, we were science students. We had chosen this stream thinking it would be as easy as previous years. We aimed to be among the top rankers.

We also had a topper in our circle Aarya, or Aaryagyana Kashyap (Aarya: one who transcends human limits, Gyana: the giver of divine knowledge), daughter of Bhimashankar Kashyap, the head priest of the great Kedarnath Temple. Aarya was the finest student in the institution.

In our group, there was another girl. Sakshi Malik, the daughter of Raj’s father’s best friend, which made her and Raj very close.

May 22nd, Rudra’s Birthday

It was a sunny day, and we had planned to surprise Rudra for his birthday.

8 AM, Adarsh Chowk, Dehradun.

Raj, Sakshi, Aarya, and I were waiting after having booked a hall for the celebration. We went to Rudra’s house to call him, but his mother informed us that he had left at 7 in the morning. We waited at

the chowk until noon. Finally, Rudra arrived standing on a band van, smiling joyfully.

Though we couldn’t celebrate as planned, we asked where he’d been. He told us,“Last night, while walking after dinner, I saw a little girl wrapped in a blanket. She had no parents or guardians. I gave her my money, took her to a restaurant, and fed her. But when I got into bed, I couldn’t sleep. I woke up early and brought her home.”

We were deeply moved. I asked the girl her name. She replied softly, “Aisha.”

“How old are you, Aisha?”

“Six.”

She was such a sweet and charming child that even a beast could feel protective of her. Tears welled up in my eyes, and I promised to give her a better life. Raj took responsibility for her education. Aarya decided to teach her values and sacraments. And I vowed to be her brother, the best brother she could ever have.

It became another reason to celebrate. And when we did with laughter and love, we called it "Rudra Special."

Time passed, and my bond with Aisha deepened. Though she lived with Rudra, she grew up emotionally close to me. She treated me like her real elder brother.

November 20th

Aisha wanted to go on a picnic, so we went to the city amusement park. It was themed for Universal Children’s Day. Aisha participated in a contest called “Mighty Children”, and won!

The park awarded us a vacation voucher, a trip to Kedarnath for six people. For Aarya, it wasn’t new. She’d won trips before, but never went without us. For Rudra and me, it was the first time winning anything.

Rudra was thrilled as he was a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. He believed that Shiv resided within him, that love for Shambhu would remain until death and even after death, he would dissolve into Him.

7 Days to Go.

Rudra and I were sitting at the edge of the valley, our usual spot for deep conversations. He said,“I don’t know why, but being with Aarya feels like I’m surfing in an endless ocean, where the breeze carries me to another world.”

I smiled and replied,

“I won’t say a word. If you feel she's your devotion, then your Shiv will guide you.”

6 Days to Go.

Rudra sat alone on the valley’s edge, whispering to the Shiv within,“If my affection
