Children of War

This perpetual jar of the masses,

This never-ending seed of strife,

Leaves behind far-reaching echoes

Of innocent souls who lose their lives.

In conflicts between lands

That they had never even heard of before

One day they were living, laughing and loving,

And the next they are no more.

And their happiness is taken away,

Their dreams are left unfulfilled

And their voices fall too soon,

But the world just forgets what they have done.

Like tiny, fragile insects crushed beneath our tread

We know not of what has happened

And do not seem to care,

About the countless lives destroyed in mere seconds.

Their friends in grief and despair,

Mourn their loss forever.

These are the children of war,

Who have suffered beyond compare.

Their stories fade, unnoticed still

Grief lingers where their laughter soared

People scramble for power and expansion nevertheless-

Because those who cause wars rarely suffer the most.
