CHILDHOOD

(Poem)

A small cute child with innocent face,

With its curly hair and bubbly cheeks,

Who used to walk in unsettled steps,

Often peeps in me with a divine smile.

It is my childhood so cute and nice,

That comes when I am awfully busy,

Brings in my mind a lot of happiness,

He wants to know if I recognize him.

He asks me why unlike the old days

I have become such a serious guy,

Bubbles still form on water in rain,

But I am no more surprised at that.

He laughs at my sheer foolishness,

Enquires to me why I grew so big

That neglecting all priceless things,

I became wise, lost all the wonders.

He invites me to play hide and seek,

Run in field leaving my boring work,

Calls me to steal sugar from the jar,

Enjoy rides in the park with friends.

I badly want to respond to its call,

But I don’t have any way to return.

Joining life’s rat race to beat others

I myself closed all doors behind me.

The childhood lives in everybody,

Comes to us with its golden touch,

Fills mind with innocence and joy,

It makes our small world big again.
