Cherished

To the woman

Who gave me treasures to cherish,

And traumas to bear,

My grandmother...

Rare are the occasions

When I don’t shed a tear,

In your absence that reverberates

Through this house and me.

A dull emptiness has replaced

What I felt whenever thoughts of you

Cross my mind...

A piece of my life, my memories,

Forever lost.

The hand that fed me

All that she could,

The mouth that rained

Curses where she stood—

Not anymore...

I'm ready to lose

A piece of my soul,

Just to feel the gentle caress

Of those calloused fingers...

The last moments we shared,

A shallow testament to your legacy in my life.

Trusting you to be happy

And at peace, wherever

You are,

Yours,

Devilspawn.
