Change

By Leila Alyzza Di C. Velasco

For years the afterhours meant peace,

Silence and stillness a peerless comfort.

It was supposed to last, not a hair out of place.

How naïve, don’t you know change is explicit?

After all, even the tiniest pebble,

When tossed often enough form ripples that are noticeable.

However, is change really something to fear?

Or is it the answer to a wordless prayer?

Drastic or mild, big or small,

One side of the scale is always bound to tip and fall.

The immediate reaction could be despair,

But keep taking a step and soon the rubble will clear.

Society will preach of contentment and appreciation,

Sometimes even shame those who yearn for more.

But you know what, I say to hell with that!

If seeking fulfills you, don’t ever let that fire fizzle out.

Change isn’t something to dread,

Use it to actively fight stagnancy instead.

There’s a vastness waiting to be found,

Especially from within where a lot of layers need explored.
