Cascading Light

I trek though the forest,

The floor cracking

as I step precariously on fallen branches.

As I place my hand against a tree,

to steady my movement,

I feel my feet sink

ever so slightly into the green moss

that covers the surface of the hillside.

It's so soft on the feet,

as though walking on a glistening cloud.

Slowly,

I make my way down a harrowing cliffside.

Marking each step carefully,

fingers finding cracks in rocks to grab hold, while tips of my toes glide into crevices.

As I reach to capture a rock,

I feel it give way and go tumbling down.

Watching it bounce and flip in the air,

ripping the ground as each touch shoots

it back up again.

Until finally

its sound stops,

as the little rock lays quiet on the bottom.

After a few more trials,

I reach the plateau that over looks the lake that is now crystal clear.

Like a magical mirror of paused time.

Only seeing ripples of small movements admist the waters surface.

All is quiet with only a gentle cool breeze, whisping into the dusks oncoming light.

My shoulders ease from tension as my pack wiggles from my frame onto the ground.

I pull out my little stove,

and turn the switch to create

a amber lights flicker.

Placing my cup filled with water,

I watch as bubbles slowly bring it to its boil.

As I sip my tea,

I watch as night starts to fall.

Moon begins to crest,

with stars bringing their enchanting light.

Night is now shadowing the forest.

While the brilliance of the moon,

barely covered by a passing cloud radiates its light down to the lake below me.

As I sit and gaze out into the lake,

I can see stars twinkling

and cascading across the water.

Bouncing colored lights

with bright orange and green,

begin zipping across the landscape.

There reflected invisions of light

seemingly send mirrored ripples

across the tree tops.

Not a sound is heard into the quiet night.

I catch a glimpse of a brown little squirrel. Peacefully perched on a tree stump,

munching away and eyes locked onto the meteor shower dancing across the land.

The simplistic of thy each moment

that passes by,

brings forth an imagery of perfection of cascading Light.
