Cacti

By Sahil Qureshi

Cacti are really good,

But oft they're misunderstood,

Judged by their thorny appearance,

Blind fools seek their clearance,

Cacti are strong no doubt,

Being hardy and stout, withstanding every drought,

By their thorns, people are intimidated,

But Cacti are good as I stated,

Don't judge a book by it's cover,

Or you might regret it forever,

Because beneath those thorns there lies,

A sense of duty that never dies,

To maintain the ecosystem, out of duty,

They endure the desert, ignoring taunts for lack of beauty,

In the land where few thrive,

Whole their life Cacti strive,

Out of sand their roots suck,

Water and minerals they find by luck,

Nothing to support them, no streams or brooks,

Yet we think of them as crooks,

Oh the injustice Cacti bear!

They don't even have enough water to spare as a tear,

Of their woe, of their sorrow, not a single soul cares,

No one heeds how a cactus fares,

Narrow mindedness has shunned Cacti aside,

Isolated and lonely is how they reside,

Stop this injustice if you would,

As every person should.
