In the face of fire, skin decays,
Leaving agony that lasts, for days and days.
Blistering pain, surging through your veins,
Pain not soothed, even by the heaviest rains.
Only white hot scars remain.
Memories of the encounter never fade,
Burnt and blistered, you have been remade.
Maybe one day, the scars will heal,
But who knows when and what they conceal
But at least one good thing comes from all this pain-
A wariness,
To counter the curiousness.
A lesson learned,
A truth that is gained,
That fire hurts, the closer it gets.
