Burning the Pages of my Memories
Original Submission by Tania Visser
I had chosen to write my feelings of hurt, sorrow, grief and endless love onto pages in the hopes that the words would provide comfort and solace. With each line and sentence I poured out every bit of emotion that bore weight to my heart and soul. It was years of memories, stories, things I tried to keep hidden in parts of my brain but today I started unleashing each one onto these exact pages. Like writing was my saving grace and I’m emptying these emotions, these memories in the hopes that once done I’d erase them altogether. I found myself writing and writing what felt like a never-ending story and the ink refused to dry, the pages were a plenty thus room for every word needed to be told. Eventually exhaustion of overwhelming tears and a hand tired of writing caught up to me, my soul now depleted could no longer express words onto paper. It was time to consume myself with anger and accept the fate I’m in and to understand that the chapter as hard and painful as it was, was time to really let go. So, I did what I thought was the most noble thing to do and that was to really and truly erase everything, including the pictures we shared. I set fire to the fireplace and slowly walked to it with both pictures and pages in hand. My tears fell one last time on these pages on these faces and with that I quickly flicked them into the fire making sure there was no room to rethink my decision. As I watched I silently whispered I’m burning the pages to my memories. It was from this moment that I could start my journey to heal, to have hope and to find inspiration for a new beginning.
