Burning

Original Submission by Mohd Saqib

BURNING

Tiny wick burnt in fire,

with no one to tell,

the poor thing's heart's desire.

Tears of agony flowed down,

still the wax stick acted,

like the flame was its crown.

The pain of melting was merciless,

on top was life,

underneath, just darkness.

Accepting its fate again and again,

the candle cried without complain,

with no one there to extinguish the pain.

Then grew dawn and sun came out,

night passed away,

and the candle was about to fall out.

Seeing the candle melt,

the sun was first who felt,

and asked the wind to pelt.

Wind obeyed and blew off the flame,

the candle thanked,

and the wind responded to the acclaim:

“Don't thank me for this kind deed,

someone’s out there for you indeed.

He could not bear to see you undone,

for who can know the pain of burning better than the sun?"
