Brook Beneath The Skies

By Jeetisha Dutt

“Come forth, homeward, sail waters blue,

Over braes and banks where the seagulls glide,

Where one finds hope to begin anew,

To learn what's true, what's pure as the tide.”

Thus says the wind in blissful dreams,

Where the mind does not abstain

From losing itself in tranquil hymns-

Lists to the heart's refrain.

Awoken to voyage by the Aurora's grace,

Sets out the dreamer with a vision clear.

Steps he into the green wood's embrace,

On a quest for truth- won over fear.

Thorns on the path, yet he moves ahead,

Ahead till his reverie greets his eyes.

Sheer nectar flowing through an evergreen mead-

The Brook of Knowledge beneath the skies.

Summary-

This poem highlights the theme of a quest for true knowledge and redemption. The first stanza portrays a dream where the wind calls out to the protagonist, telling him to undertake a voyage towards a place where his heart would find a home. Here the heart and mind resonate alike and do not conflict each other.

In the second stanza, the protagonist awakens at dawn to begin his journey into the woods. He faces several hardships in his path, crosses cliffs and sea shores, mapping the whole landscape. Yet he does not rest until he finally sees his dreams realise in the form of a small, clear stream in the middle of a meadow. This tranquil scenery of ‘The brook of knowledge’ brings to him true peace and unparalleled bliss.
