Broken Hearts

The world is full of broken hearts and darkened souls.

Of bodies that were once people and of smiles that once reached the eye.

The world is full of people who loved and lost.

Full of color instead of different shades of gray.

But truth to be told, it is these who lead the way, who keep the humanity in us alive.

Because it these who know what it feels like to be on the other side.

Who’ve been hurt but never apologized to,

Who’ve given their all in exchange for next to nothing.

And these people will change the world. They’ll carry their past in their hearts, their hearts on the sleeves and happiness on their shoulders.

They’ll wear their scars as proudly as medals and be felicitated.

They’ll be happy and they’ll be free.
