Breaking Chains

By Shivani Jignesh Shah (Gala)

In slavery and darkness when India was sinking,

Millions of people were terribly weeping.

The rule of the Britishers was a curse,

The life of people was so worse.

People struggled for peace and happiness,

But bore the torture and burden with heaviness.

Then fortunately lightened up a hope

When the freedom fighters started to cope.

The brave, strong fighters came;

Which forced the Britishers to stop their game.

They lived for days without food

To save us from the Britishers who were rude.

They were badly wounded and covered with blood,

But kept the promise they had made to India's mud.

They sacrificed their lives without fear

The story of these heroes fills our eyes with tears.

Finally came the day of joy,

Because of these fighters' deploy.

At last in the year 1947,

India got independent.

Salute to the soldiers who fought till their last breath,

So remarkably valiant were they, they never feared death.
