Blinding White

It lingers,

The part that slips away unnoticed.

We celebrate the becoming,

Rarely mourning the unbecoming.

Everything is dressed in white,

A color so pure it reflects the light,

Blinding everything you ever knew was right.

The long-worn veil stitched with lace,

A smile painted upon my face,

The sound of the music filled the space

With thoughts that wouldn’t erase.

A bouquet gripped, like the words unsaid,

Hidden between the petals pressed.

A walk rehearsed, a kind of death.

The line stretched the final breath.

I walked down the aisle.

The faces were blurred,

Not from tears,

But from how far I’d already gone.

The vows were sweet,

The promise clear,

But not for who I used to be.

The words were spoken,

Forgetting her name,

Something that could never be said again.

Somewhere between the altar and the mirror,

I vanished.

A part of me faded

Into the lining of the dress

I’d never wear again.
