Behind the reeds

As the dawn came and the new day broke

I walked along the forest once more.

Through silent trees standing sentry

Through wild flowers waving the entry

Through dark shadows that cast down wind

Through whispering willows that seemed quietly to sing.

Deep into the wood I walked alone

Till I came to a place my heart knew alone,

And I walked down the lonely road,

But look… the path has been tread on before.

My heart skips a beat as I look once more

To see who could’ve found this abode.

But then it is only my footfall

For the same way I had come before.

I follow the steps to the forgotten pond

Where swim the swans and hens of moor.

Flowers bloom in red and in rose

Wave softly their brightly coloured coats.

The light plays on the water still

The reeds make music to lull all to sleep.

The path is brown, lined with green

Leading to the rocks where angels weep.

The soft lapping of watery waves

Complete the music of the dawn and day.

All this beauty is hidden deep within

The secrets of the forest can never be seen

Only I sit by the broken leaves

To watch the world that thrives

Behind the curtain of reeds.
