Behind The Mask
By Madhu Kaleke Sarao
These shades of masks pink green and blue
Often intrigue me and make me wonder
What goes on behind them
Every man’s mask tells a different story
From the way it is put up to keep the deadly virus at bay
Some wear designer masks; some wear plain
And some wear them just to ward off stares
The twinkling eyes of God’s own children,
Behind their little masks, make them wonder
“What have these adults done to put us in danger?”
They will understand when on this earth they will no longer be strangers
Each mask is like the unique identification number
It tells the tale so typical and important of the wearer
Some are particular about fashion
Some don’t care to even wash them
Like every coin has two sides wearing a mask is no exception
If it chokes you; it also saves you from the unwanted odour
I don’t know how many times it has got wet from the silent tears that drop down into its sides
No one can ask the dead mask the untold tales of its wearer
These shades of masks pink green and blue
Often intrigue me and make me wonder
What goes on behind them
