Behind The Bars

By Khushi Vanjani

Yes, am inside,

Where no one wants to stand.

The world I adore is Far away.

Holding my sentiments,

Choking inside drop by drop,

Every attempt of mine flops.

My throat pains but here everyone

Seems to be deaf,

See how I have become an elf.

I have been tied to a place,

Where I live with grace.

Am flayed by own crowd,

Of which I will never be proud.

Shamelessly, they gashed my wings,

Cause am not the king.

Yes, that’s why am behind the bars.

A Queen without prerogative.

"This is such a powerful and moving piece. Your use of metaphors—like the 'gashed wings' and the 'Queen without prerogative'—perfectly captures the pain of being silenced. It’s raw, honest, and very relatable. Thank you for sharing your voice!"
